IEM (The Incredible Expanding Mindfuck)
The Incredible Expanding Mindfuck is an occasional Steven Wilson project, in which Steven produces psychedelic experimental music inspired by material from the '60s, '70s and beyond (particularly the Krautrock of Neu!, Can and Faust, post-rock, Frank Zappa and the cosmic jazz of artists like Sun Ra). The music is a mixture of motorik grooves, textures, speech cut-ups, scientific psychedelia and organic dreamscapes.
A reissue of 'An Escalator to Xmas' (consisting of an album and EP on one CD, with bonus material) is planned for the near future.
The latest available IEM release is the project's third album, 'IEM Have Come For Your Children' (released on Headphone Dust, catalogue number IEMCD1). This features contributions from woodwind player Geoff Leigh (of Henry Cow and Ex Wise Heads) and drummer Mark Simnett (formerly of Bark Psychosis).
As with Bass Communion, IEM often produces limited-edition releases which sell out very quickly, so it is always worth keeping an eye on the project's activities via the IEM page at Steven Wilson HQ.
